The Ribeira Sacra is the greatest concentration of rural Romanesque architecture in Europe, it is the bravery of the wine growers that work the vineyards on steep terraced banks that slide down towards the rivers, it is the gastronomic festivals that honour the wine that take place throughout the year. The Ribeira Sacra is spirituality, centuries-old chestnut groves, boats plying the rivers Miño, Sil and Cabe, the smell of Mencía grapes, birdsong and the breeze on the vine leaves, it is a special journey for you through a magical landscape.
The Ribeira Sacra is made up of around twenty councils distributed between the south of Lugo Province and the north east of Ourense Province. The landscape is united by the wine (D.O. Ribeira Sacra) and the monastic traditions. The biggest centre of population in the Ribeira Sacra is Monforte de Lemos, it is also the main centre for all the services that a visitor might need, therefore, Monforte is the perfect base from which to visit the Ribeira Sacra
One place which is a must to visit, either before or after your visit to the Ribeira Sacra is the Centro del Vino (Wine Centre). An innovative exhibition space which enables you to get close to the Ribeira Sacra through the senses. Here you will also find the Tourist Office and the Vinoteca (wine shop) where you can buy any of the wines of the D.O. Ribeira Sacra.
We hope that you have a fantastic experience in the Ribeira Sacra and in our city.
