16/07/2018 The Museum of Sacred Art of the Poor Clares is located in the convent of Santa Clara, founded in the mid-seventeenth century by Catalina de la Cerda and Sandoval, wife of the VII Count of Lemos, Pedro Fernández de Castro. The museum is one of the most important in Monforte. The collection keep sculptures, paintings and reliquaries, among other pieces, that the counts brought from their stay in Naples, during their viceroyalty, between 1610 and 1616. It is the collection of sacred and Italian art of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries more complete and valuable from Galicia.
To the Italian pieces we must add other important works acquired in Spain, highlighting the reclining Christ in processional urn and two Immaculate ones of the workshop of Gregorio Fernández, and among other works, pieces of ornament and liturgical clothing.
According to the information provided by the Museum, the visiting hours are:
From Monday to Saturday: at 11.00 h. and at 17.30 h.
Sundays and holidays: at 12:00 h. and at 17:30 h.
Admission is 5 euros. In the case of opting for a guided tour, the price is 6 euros.
